The annual meeting of GEO (Group on Earth Observations) will take place between the 23 and 27 of October in Washington DC. There are two sessions organized by CREAF: one centering on citizen science, and the other on future prospects for EuroGEOSS.

Experts at CREAF say that bee populations are on the decline and that pesticides such as neonicotinoids are one of the main causes. It is important to promote organic, sustainable agriculture and move forward on the prohibition of these compounds.

CREAF establishes connections in Africa in the field of water management

Last November, two members of CREAF’s staff attended a workshop organized by the European Commission which was also attended by the Network of Centres of Excellence in Water Sciences (NEPAD). At this meeting held in Accra, the BEWATER project was presented as a successful case.

The Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas has been published

Today, May 25, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) publishes the Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas, first-ever of this topic. It’s a European Comission iniciative, available and free for everyone who is interested in. This atlas maps the soil biodiversity of the entire planet by providing an exhaustive analysis of soil organisms and the threats it has to face. Soil management could help the mitigation of the effects of climate change.
